On Thursday 9th November Mayor Gowan welcomed 19 Key Stage 2 classes from schools across the Lisburn & Castlereagh area to take part in a Zoom art workshop to mark Remembrance Day.
It was led by artist and educator Sinead McDermott from The Art and Design Factory teaching students how to create a painting of ‘A Field of Poppies’. The workshop gave young people the opportunity to recognise the personal sacrifices made by men and women, past and present, to protect freedoms we enjoy today.
It was part of a wider initiative Mayor Gowan is delivering in partnership with the Lisburn Branch of The Royal British Legion to honour veterans and foster the tradition of Remembrance through a visual arts, short stories and poetry Remembrance Day competition.
